Daryl’s Story: Sense of Tumour

Updated: Jul 16

Beaumont Hospital Foundation was honoured to welcome Daryl Gabbett back to Beaumont Hospital, where he generously presented a cheque for €1,000 in support of brain tumour care. The donation represents funds raised through his Sense of Tumour pop-up event, held at the hospital to raise awareness and support for patients affected by brain tumours.

Daryl was joined for the presentation by his parents and his aunt Audrey — his biggest supporter and a big-time champion of Sense of Tumour. Though some family members, including his girlfriend Jessica, couldn’t be there in person, they remain an incredible source of strength for Daryl and continue to support his mission wholeheartedly.

Daryl’s journey began when he was diagnosed with a glioma brain tumour. Since then, he has courageously undergone multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, and continues to receive ongoing care at Beaumont Hospital, under the specialist team led by Prof. Liam Grogan and Mr. John Caird.

In response to the exceptional care he received at both Beaumont and St. Luke’s Hospital, Daryl created Sense of Tumour — a powerful campaign designed to raise awareness of brain tumours and to encourage people to listen closely to their bodies and seek medical advice when something doesn’t feel right.

At the heart of the initiative is a growing collection of branded hats and caps, which help fund vital brain tumour research and patient support services. More than just merchandise, each item sold sparks meaningful conversations around early detection, brain health, and the importance of advocacy.

We are deeply grateful to Daryl for his generosity, courage, and ongoing efforts to support others navigating a brain tumour diagnosis. His passion and determination are an inspiration to us all.

Thank you, Daryl — from everyone at Beaumont Hospital Foundation.
