Transplant to Summits: Angela's Journey

Some challenges are about reaching the top. Others are about remembering the people who helped us get there.

For Angela Sweeney, climbing the highest point in every county in Ireland is much more than an adventure. It's a deeply personal journey to honour her dad, David, whose kidney donation gave her the gift of life.

Angela hopes to complete all 32 county high points by 22nd October 2026, marking the fourth anniversary of her kidney transplant. Every summit she reaches is a tribute to her father, whose generosity changed her life forever.

Along the way, Angela is fundraising for Beaumont Hospital Foundation in support of Damian's Kidney Transplant Unit and Peter's Ward, two areas of Beaumont Hospital that played a significant role in the lives of both Angela and her father.

Damian's Kidney Transplant Unit cared for Angela and David before, during and after their transplant surgeries, while Peter's Ward looked after David for almost three months during his illness last year. Through her fundraising, Angela hopes to give back to the doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, porters and all of the staff who cared for her family with such compassion and dedication.

Speaking about her challenge, Angela shared:

"Together with family and friends, I am climbing to the highest point of every county in Ireland. I intend to complete this challenge by October 22nd 2026 which will mark the fourth anniversary of my kidney transplant.

I've chosen to fundraise for Beaumont Hospital Foundation. All funds raised will directly support Damian's Kidney Transplant Unit and Peters Ward - two areas of the hospital which have played a significant role in my life to date.

I would not be undertaking this challenge without the gift of life given to me by my father David. Every step I take along the way will be in his memory."

With just 10 summits left to climb, Angela has already raised an incredible €7,035 thanks to the generosity of her family, friends and supporters.
