Fundraiser Spotlight: Running for Ned

We are incredibly grateful to this inspiring group of friends who have already raised an amazing €21,811 in memory of their beloved friend, Ned, who sadly passed away from brain cancer in November 2024 at just 23 years old.

Ned’s friends - Anna, Aoibhe, Aoife, Ciara, Daniel, Eoin, Evan, Max, Mícheál, Paraic and Vicky - met him during teacher training at Mary Immaculate College in 2019 and formed a strong, lasting bond. They describe Ned as kind, funny, and full of life — someone who made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

To honour his memory and the strength he showed throughout his illness, they’ve taken on a remarkable challenge: their first-ever half marathons.

Aoibhe completed the Brooklyn Half Marathon on April 27th, and the rest of the group will run the Cork City Half Marathon on June 1st - all in memory of Ned, and in support of his family, his girlfriend Anne, and every patient receiving specialist care in Beaumont Hospital.

The funds they are raising will go directly towards supporting vital services and care for patients facing serious illness, just as Ned did. Their dedication is a moving tribute, and we are honoured they’ve chosen to support Beaumont Hospital Foundation in Ned’s name.
