Charity Football Match Raises €1,540

Fourteen months ago in July 2015, Gerry Connolly's world - and that of his sons, Stephen, Brendan and twins Niall and Paul - was thrown off course when his wife, Bridget Connolly, passed away from a very rare brain cancer.

Bridget was diagnosed in May and underwent brain surgery in Beaumont Hospital but unfortunately, never recovered. She spent a number of weeks on Richmond I.C.U. and Gerry remembers ," the care she received there and the care and compassion shown to us as a family had to be encountered to be believed".

His eldest sons, Stephen and Brendan, are both keen GAA players in their home town of Tubercurry, Co Sligo and the family organised a charity match between their teams to raise funds for Richmond ICU and the Northwest Hospice where Bridget spent her final days.

The family returned to Beaumont yesterday and presented Siobhan Tierney Pike, staff nurse on Richmond ICU with a cheque for €1,540 to support the purchase of equipment for the unit. Huge thanks to Gerry and his sons for their support in memory of Bridget.
