Damien Duke from Bunclody, Co Wexford is a patient of the Cochlear Implant Programme at Beaumont Hospital. Damien was diagnosed as having significant hearing problems at age 3. His speech had not developed and his mother Rosaleen remembers that he always wanted his Dad, Leslie, to bring him out to the shed to start the lawnmower. She feels that was because he could pick up the engine vibrations in his ear.
Now age 10, Damien has had his first cochlear implant and attends Carrigduff National School in Bunclody and plays football the under 11s team. He is considering having a second implant when he works up the courage but otherwise, has a perfect boy's life!
His cousin, Adrian, did a recent parachute jump and raised €610 for the Cochlear Implant programme in Beaumont Hospital. Damien and Adrian are pictured with Damien's brother Nathan and Fergal Glynn and Peter Walsh of the Cochlear Implant Programme.
