Honour Your Heroes - Killian Minogue

Thursday, 01 September, 2016

In March 2015, Killian Minogue from Dunderry in Co Meath was walking home from work along the dual carriageway when he was hit by a van. He was brought by ambulance to Connolly Hospital and his injuries were so severe that he had to be resuscitated twice en route. Top of the long list of injuries he received was a massive head injury and he was transferred to Beaumont Hospital's Richmond ICU where he was kept in an induced coma.He underwent a craniotomy, performed by Consultant Neurosurgeon, Mr Darach Crimmins, in which a piece of his skull was removed to relieve the pressure.

Killian still has some physical issues to work through but the most lasting damage will be his complete loss of long term memory prior to the accident. He spoke with great humour and poignancy when thanking Mr Crimmins for giving him the opportunity to make some new memories and is looking forward to returning to college in September. He is pictured here with Dr Deirdre Hussey who accepted the Honour Your Heroes Award on behalf of Mr Darach Crimmins, with Brent Pope MC for the reception and his family.
