Helen Hopkins - Honour Your Heroes

Monday, 31 August, 2020

"My eight year old son, Oisín, was referred to the National Hearing and Resource Centre at Beaumont Hospital in 2017 having been diagnosed with severe sensorineural hearing loss in both ears. He underwent his first Cochlear Implant surgery in August 2018 and had his second implant in November 2019.

Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of a truly amazing team in the department, from admin staff to audiology to the doctors, all who have helped make an emotional rollercoaster of a journey easier on every level. However Oisín would like to nominate Patsy Costello, Speech and Language Therapist for an Honour Your Heroes award. She has been a constant familiar and friendly face at every single appointment, and these were every 6 weeks in our first year.

In Oisín's words "Patsy makes things fun, I do lots of work with her but she let's me play pop up pirate too! She talks to me and listens to all my news and she's funny and kind too. My hearing and speech is a lot better with all the work I do with Patsy".
