In the early hours of the morning of Dec 27th 2016, 27 yr old Callum Grimes from Rush, Co Dublin, was the victim of a hit and run accident as he walked home following a christmas night out with friends. He was brought to Beaumont Hospital and spent several months on Adams McConnell Ward before he sadly passed away in July 2017. He was a larger than life character, much loved by his parents, Catherine and Mark, his sisters, extended family, friends and work colleagues in TKMaxx in Swords.
Im memory of his short life, his family and friends come together to organise an annual February fundraiser on the date of his birthday, with funds raised going to Adams McConnell Ward in Beaumont Hospital where Cal spent the last few months of his life.
In 2018, Mark and Catherine Grimes donated €10,760 from an event held in the Strand Bar in Rush to Beaumont Hospital. These funds were raised through the generosity of the several hundred people who supported the event.
This year's event - The King Cal Jam - takes place on Saturday 23rd February in St Maurs GAA Club at 8.30pm and you can make a direct donation to the Callum Grimes fund on this page (see above).Thank you for supporting Cal and his memory and helping to improve care for patients with neuro-related conditions in the National Neurosurgical Centre at Beaumont Hospital.
