Caroline wins big for Richmond Ward

Midwife, Caroline Phillips, took part in the Mini Marathon to raise funds for Richmond Ward as she was a patient here in 2015. She set up an Everyday Hero personal fundraising page to invite friends to support her and in doing so was entered into a raffle by Everyday Hero to win €1,000 for her charity and won! She is pictured here with Paddy Delaney of BHF, Linda Sutcliffe from VHI Womens Mini Marathon and Kieran Joyce of Everyday Hero.

Speaking about her win, Caroline says, "I have entered the VHI Women's Mini Marathon on many occasions over the last few years. I decided to enter the 2016 race last October while I was a patient on Richmond Ward in Beaumont Hospital following a sudden subarachnoid brain haemorrhage. At the time to my family and friends it probably seemed like a crazy idea - I was lying in my hospital bed very unwell, barely able to walk a few feet. Yet there I was planning on running 10km. The care I received from each and every one of the staff on Richmond Ward was exceptional and outstanding and I wanted to give something back.

Once I registered for the VHI Women's Mini Marathon I set up my everydayhero.ie fundraising page to fundraise for Richmond Ward via the Beaumont Hospital Foundation. It made it so easy for me to share my story via social media and I was overwhelmed by people's generosity and at how quickly I reached my initial fundraising target of €500. On the day of the marathon the atmosphere was electric. Every woman (and man) there to raise funds for such worthy causes. I will never forget the emotion I felt crossing the finish line just eight months after suffering my brain haemorrhage. It was an amazing feeling and such a personal achievement. The icing on the cake was when I received a call from everydayhero.ie to say I was the winner of their competition and that they were donating an extra €1,000 to my cause bringing my total fundraising to just under €3,000. Although I am still recovering I hope to be able to participate in the VHI Women's Mini Marathon for many more years to come".
