Michael and Maeve Mobilise the People of Craanford

Michael and Maeve Kenny from Gorey, Co Wexford  made a donation of €7,500 to the physiotherapy department in Beaumont Hospital where Michael received the help and encouragement he needed to get him back on his feet following brain surgery.

Michael underwent neurosurgery for a brain tumour in November 2013 and, as a result, experienced left side paralysis and was unable to walk. He spent time in the Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire but it wasn’t until he returned to the care of the Physio Dept. in Beaumont Hospital that he began to literally’ find his feet’ again. Through their professional support, Michael has learnt to walk with the aid of a frame and was delighted to be able to raise funds for the Department.

In a tribute to the team, who Michael declares, ‘saved his life’, the community of Craanford, Gorey, Co Wexford came together on Christmas Day 2014 to organise a 5km Christmas run in aid of Beaumont Hospital Foundation for the use of the Physiotherapy Department.

Pedro Vasquez, Senior Physiotherapist said that he was delighted at the amount of funding that Michael, Maeve and the community in Gorey have generated. “Normally when patients thank us we get a card or a box of chocolates which we love to receive! However, this contribution is truly amazing. It will allow us to buy new equipment and invest in learning and development for our staff – all of which will benefit future patients. A huge thanks to the Kenny family and their community for this wonderful gift to our Department”, he concluded.
